I'm just a geek-lovin' gal that spends my days fighting the zombie grind & at night I seek the safety of my crafty dreams. When I'm not blogging, I'm playing with string & working to pursue my dream of having my own online crafty shop.

The real test...

Hello there Monday…we meet again! While you may not be my favorite thing, & the fact that this time you mark the first full zombie job work week of 2012, I will not let you beat me!

Well here we are…here goes nothin’. It’s time to face the first test of 2012…

Can I keep up the excitement of what promises to be a year for crafty dreams during the first full work week at the zombie job?

So far it’s almost been a walk in the park, but the best things in life don’t come easy. If I’m going to really make things happen this year, things have to be different. I can’t let what I’m not meant to do be the one thing stopping me from doing what I was born to do. So, how do I plan to keep up the great progress I’ve made for the last week?

Keep positive!

One thing that has been apparent now more than ever is that the greatest things don’t come easy. If it’s really worth it, then you have to be ready to overcome road blocks along the journey. Those zombie job days that really try my patience, I won’t let them get me down or make me want to just give everything up. I’m going to look those moments in the ‘face’ & tell them “Thanks for pushing me even closer to my crafty dreams!”.

Make the most of my time!

Every day, I’m supposed to get two 15-minute breaks & a 60-minute lunch break. Right there is 90 minutes of time that I can make the most of!

zombie job survival pack

While I usually bring a notebook & a book (or crafty project) with me every day, they don’t always get touched between 8am & 5pm. But that’s all about to change! I’ve started bringing sketchbooks, notebooks, yarn & books to read with me every day. If I get a sudden burst of inspiration, you can sure bet that I’ll be pulling that sketchbook & colored pencils out before it’s…*POOF*…gone! And I’ve already started reading Craft, Inc. & taking notes as I get more serious about opening those virtual doors.

Don’t bring zombies home!

I don’t really have to ever bring work home with me, but there have been so many times that I’ve had a hard time leaving the frustrations of the zombie job at work. As soon as I walk through the door & walk toward my car to begin the journey home to Mr. Wonderful, I enter a zombie-free world…& it should stay that way!

Gone are the times that I will let a bad day stay with me all…day…long! When I’m home, it’s time to switch gears & focus on the dreams we are making a reality. I know there will be plenty of road blocks along this journey, so why should I add unnecessary ones? The journey will be tough, but there’s no reason I should make it even harder on myself.

…now to see if I pass the test!

Oh, I know you can do it! Love that you take a survival pack to work! Awesome idea! Happy Monday xxx

Thanks for the encouragement, Chrissy. I had to do something to make sure I wouldn’t slip back into the old routine & frustrated ways, so the survival pack was the best thing I could come up with.

      Happy Monday!

Thanks Claire. I’m about 2/3 into the book & have already found it super helpful. I’ll probably keep it close by while I work on starting things up.

“I can’t let what I’m not meant to do be the one thing stopping me from doing what I was born to do.” LOVE that line! Great idea to try and leave the job-stress at the job and not have it hitch a free ride through your mind all evening.

Thanks Jordy. It’s definitely a lot easier said than done, but so far I’m doing pretty well. I’m just hoping I can keep it up all year (if I’m here that long).

Working over breaks at work is so addicting, and such a lift for the spirits! Hope you’re kicking Monday in the butt :-)

      Thanks Cate.

So far I’m doing fairly well. Enjoyed a nice quiet lunch break in my car with some music & my blog book. Almost lost track of time & went over on my lunch. LOL!

While the zombie job is totally unfortunate, there are a few bonuses that I’m reading here – you don’t have to take it home! That is so awesome, I think so many times we get wrapped up in our jobs and then take them into our life outside the work place. Of course I totally get this is harder in practice than in theory but I like to see/read that you’re embracing it!

You’re right, Deidre, it’s not all doom & gloom. I just know that it’s definitely not what I was meant to do. Since I’m a gal that has to make a living somehow, I’ve got to stick with it until something better comes along.
